How we write and check our pages

Every symptom page on Pet Well Check is written with the help of AI and checked against published veterinary sources before it goes live. We do not have a veterinarian on staff, so we only state what we can trace to a reliable source.

Each symptom starts as one fact sheet shared by all languages: the urgency levels and what triggers each, the common causes, the warning signs and what is safe to do at home. Every urgency rule must match at least one source. The English, Japanese, Portuguese, German and Chinese pages are then written from that sheet for each country, so a symptom has the same urgency in every language.

Before a page is published, a second, separate review compares every claim with the sources and flags anything unsupported, overstated or missing. An automatic check also blocks medicine names, doses and words that would present the page as a diagnosis.

We use textbooks, university veterinary hospitals and professional bodies, such as the Merck Veterinary Manual, the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center and university veterinary teaching hospitals. Each page lists the sources it was checked against and the date it was last reviewed. Pages are reviewed again at least every six months.

We never give medicine names or doses, and we never tell you a pet has a specific disease. Our pages and the symptom checker help you decide how quickly to see a vet. If you see a mistake, write to hello@petwellcheck.com and we will check the page within seven days.
